An Garda Síochána says no car break-ins or thefts were reported to have occurred in Longford town during the busy Hallowe’en weekend. Gardaí are now encouraging anyone who experienced such to come forward and report the matter to Longford Garda Station on 043-3350570.

There were no reports of cars being broken into in Longford town over the Hallowe’en weekend, according to An Garda Síochána.

In response to a query from the Longford Leader, a Garda spokesperson confirmed that no incidents of break-ins or theft from vehicles had been recorded in the town during the busy period from Friday, October 30 to Sunday, November 1.

The weekend in question saw Longford town host the Dead of Night Festival, with its spectacular finale, the Fire & Shadows Procession, drawing huge crowds into the town centre on the 31st in particular.

Online commentary in the days after pointed to a number of vehicle break-ins and thefts having occurred while the event was taking place.

When asked for the number of vehicles reported to have been broken into on the night of the finale, and over the three-day period in total, a Garda spokesman replied that their system showed “no incidents of reported thefts from vehicles in the time frame provided.”

Gardaí are now encouraging anyone who experienced such to come forward and report the matter to Longford Garda Station on 043 3350570.
