The service users and staff of RehabCare, Redleaf house Longford have presented a petition to Longford County Council Director of Services John Brannigan calling for the installation of a pedestrian crossing from Mollaghan’s car park to Market Square.

Declan Cunningham, who is a RehabCare service user and was recently elected on the national advocacy committee for RehabCare, formally presented the petition to Mr Brannigan last Friday afternoon.

Declan explained, “We need this pedestrian crossing from Mollaghan’s car park to Market Square for the safe access of service users from Redleaf house to the Market Square and from there on to the town.”

Also present for the handing over of the petition were Joe Flaherty TD, Margaret Keogh (RehabCare service user advocate), Sally Budd (RehabCare centre manager), Jenny Rea (RehabCare supervisor) and service users and staff from RehabCare, Redleaf house.

Declan added, “This pedestrian crossing, if it gets the green light, will be a valuable addition in helping service users and the public at large to safely access the Market Square and Mollaghan’s car park and in doing so will help alleviate the chances of an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

“Hopefully the public will also get behind this proposal.”
