Public crying out for Longford Camlin Quarter regeneration, meeting is told

Council officials have been warned the general public will only start believing in Longford's well documented regeneration once work begins on the county town's Camlin Quarter.
In its budgetary presentation to local politicians last week, it was revealed the council's regeneration team were continuing to work on projects totalling €44.5m.
Housing Minister Daragh O'Brien announced in March 2021 €10.4m in State funding for the development of the 55 acre site.
Around €3.5m in matched funding from Longford County Council's own resources were likewise approved for a project which has long been heralded as a “game-changer” towards the region's economic future.
However, Cllr Seamus Butler told a budget meeting last week that unless visible progress was seen during the opening half of next year, he might even consider not running for election in 2024.
“Unless we see some major progress down there (Camlin Quarter) over the next six months, I don't know if I will be able to knock on doors in 2024,” he said.
