Red letter day as Longford’s Scoil Eimear celebrates positive impact of new extension

The school cut the ribbon to acknowledge the new four classrooms
St Éimear’s National School in Longford town had a special blessing to mark the official opening of their new extension.
The school now has an additional four classroom extension which was achieved in less than a year, providing more space for the schoolchildren to learn.
There are over two hundred and thirteen students at St Eimear's NS and the school motto is “Loyalty and friendship forever.”
Fr Tony Gilhooley, the school chaplain, presided over the blessing and there was also ribbon cutting ceremony to acknowledge that the extension was finally complete.

“Our school completed a four classroom extension in less than a year,” said the school principal, Martina McCormack.
Planning work on the development began between July 3 2023 to June 26, 2024.
July 3 was when the ground was broken to commence the extension. Under the daily guidance and expertise of Mark Smith, who works with Benny Ledwith builders and team, the extension’s completion led to a seamless transition for the schoolchildren to settle in.
“By June 2024 the children who were moving into these classrooms in September 2024, got to move all of their furniture and books into these rooms.”
The project was overseen by Jane Meade, architect, Angela Crossan Q.S. and John Murtagh engineer. Some of the pupils performed on the day and invited guests joined with the school staff afterwards for lovely refreshments.
With great efficiency and achieving an extension in such little time, the school has plenty to be proud about.
