Fianna Fáil Cllr Uruemu Adejinmi calls for review of Local Improvement Scheme

A Longford representative has submitted a motion to Longford Municipal District and called for a review of the Local Improvement Scheme (LIS) to ensure each municipal district is given an annual allocation.

More than €938,000 was allocated to Longford County Council for road improvement work and they use a selection criteria to choose from the applicants which roads to prioritise.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Uruemu Adejinmi stressed there should be fairness and equal distribution of the funding.

She stated she is requesting a condition be included in future when the selection criteria is being carried out that there is an allocation for at least one municipal area.

"That is because out of the current roads that are selected none of those are in Longford Municipal District, which means that in 2024/ 2025 the improvement works are not going to be done in any area out of the almost €1 million allocated," Cllr Adejinmi added.

The local representative said fairness is very important and she insisted every municipal district area should benefit.

Cllr Adejinmi Longford Municipal District has several roads that require improvement work and need funding.

"It is a significant amount of funding and it should be used around the county and that proviso would ensure every year at least one road is worked on,” she added.
