Sunday, June 11 sees Strokestown’s Sliabh Bán Athletic club welcome back their annual 10km road race.

In its 8 years this race has gone from strength to strength attracting a competitive field of athletes and leisure runners.

The course boasts a scenic looped route with undulating roads which finishes in the majestic grounds of Strokestown Park House and Museum.

The race is chipped and timed and all participants will receive a medal and t shirt. Goody bags are also provided for the first 150 registrants.

First, second and third male and female home will receive cash prizes of €150, €100 and €50 respectively. There is also a bonus €50 prize for beating the course record which currently stands at 33.05!

These cash prizes are generously sponsored by local business family Justin Dixon of Kingsize Menswear.

The club and committee would like also to sincerely thank their other sponsors, Frank Hanly of Europsar Strokestown, Marie McDonnell of McDonnells pharmacy Strokestown, Conal Hanly, Dawn til Dusk Strokestown, Cosgrove / McGuinness SuperValu Strokestown and Fullards Fruit & Vegetables Roscommon.

A huge thank you also to Strokestown Tidy Town Group, Strokestown Town Team and the team at the National Heritage Museum at Strokestown Park House who continue to support the club in preparation for race day.

Recently, Strokestown was deeply saddened by the sad loss of little Kate Molly Colum RIP at just five years of age who lived locally.

In light of this all proceeds of this years race will go to Roscommon Branch of Down syndrome Ireland, in memory of Kate Molly.

This will fund various activities and therapies such as cookery classes, speech and language therapy etc for it members.

All support is greatly appreciated.
