Struck three times during Longford pub car park assault
A victim was struck three times in the head during an assault as he got out of his car, the recent sitting of Longford District Court heard.
Arising out of the incident, Dinis Biedre (37) of Clonbonny, Lanesboro, Co Longford was charged with assault causing harm on June 16 last at Adie Farrell’s Pub car park, Lanesboro.
Court presenter Sergeant Enda Daly told the court the victim had been getting out of his car, in a car park.
As he did so, he was punched three times in the head and face. “He recognised the attacker and told him he would call the guards,” Sgt Daly said.
The court heard the defendant had two previous convictions for assault causing harm, and had previously received a four-year suspended prison sentence. This was twelve years ago.
Defence solicitor Frank Gearty said the defendant and the injured party would have known each other.
Mr Gearty suggested the case be put back to allow for a victim impact statement and give him time to put forward mitigation on behalf of his client. The defendant also aimed to have €1,000 before the court as an ex-gratia payment.
Judge Bernadette Owens adjourned the case to January 16 next.
