The brains of Longford! Large crowd turns out to support successful Killashee cemetery table quiz

Community turns out in force for worthy fundraiser
There was a packed house in the Chestnut Tree, Killashee on Friday, October 25 for the successful Halloween Table Quiz in aid of Killashee Cemetery. All present got into the Halloween spirit to make it a night to remember.
The amount raised to date is close to €3,000 with donations still coming in. A final figure will be published in the coming weeks. The money raised will go towards the upkeep and improvements of the cemetery.
Anyone visiting the graveyard can’t but be impressed with the work already carried out - the extensive cleaning of both the main gate piers (thanks to Niall Dennigan for a wonderful job); the removal and disposal of bushes and rubbish; the removal of vegetation on walls; erection of ‘No Dumping Signs’.
To date the committee has already made significant work on their tasks with grass cutting taking place regularly. The main entrance gates have been removed and there has been fantastic restoration work carried out on them, thanks to Liam Farrell Engineering, Clondra for a wonderful job. At the moment our trusty painter Marie Dennigan is putting the final touches to the restored entrance gates.
The committee wishes to thank all the teams that participated in the quiz and donated so generously to the raffle. Thanks also to all those who were unable to attend on the night but have kindly donated to the fund.
Thanks to all the sponsors for their very generous prizes. Thanks to quizmaster, Joe Flaherty TD for a very varied set of questions and for keeping the crowd entertained. Thanks to our correctors and scorekeepers Mary and Louise Killian, to James and Damian Edgeworth for amplification. A special word of thanks to Teresa and Gerry Dooner for the use of their premises and for the delicious refreshments.
The money raised will go towards the maintenance of the graveyard and the committee have some new projects lined up in the coming months.
A WhatsApp group has been established where people with family members laid to rest in the cemetery or who own plots, are encouraged to join and be easily informed of events taking place. If you wish to join the WhatsApp group, then feel free to contact any of the committee members or contact them on their Facebook page.
