Cllr Paraic Brady praised the outgoing Minister her for her successful career as a politician

There was glowing praise for Fine Gael deputy leader Heather Humphreys from Fine Gael Cllr Paraic Brady at last week's Granard Municipal District meeting.

Cllr Brady praised her for her successful career as a politician after she become the latest high profile party member to decide not to run in the general election.

The Minister for Social Protection, (64) announced she was stepping away as she was unable to give the job of TD the necessary time and commitment it required.

"I want to pay tribute to Heather Humphreys who was very supportive of projects here in Longford," Cllr Brady said. "She helped to put in huge investment and I would like to thank her for the project in Ballinamuck."

Cllr Brady said Minister Humphreys had been a great friend to Longford over the years.

In September 2023 Minister Humphreys, who was then over the Rural and Community Development portfolio, officially opened the Battle of Ballinamuck Commemoration Weekend.

During her visit to the county the Minister also opened the Aughnacliffe Heritage Trail and also turned on the Monaduff to Ballinamuck Trail, which is part of the North Longford Rebel Trail.
