Big turnout at Paddy Dolan 5k in Clara

Congratulations to Clara AC on the success of the Paddy Dolan 5k race on Sunday last. With a very impressive total of 316 finishers, the Clara AC team of organisers ought to be very pleased with the turnout.

The race was organised extremely well, and Clara AC and all involved deserve great credit.

Despite the very drizzly start to the day, the feedback from most athletes was how warm and humid it was during the run once the sun made an appearance. Not a bad complaint to say the least!. The race was on a one-looped course that was described as generally flat but with some sneaky drags along the 5000m route. Some great times were posted too, despite the fear of all the PBs at the recent Banagher AC race causing disappointment here.

Well done to everyone who competed and to all the prize winners. Thank you to the Offaly Civil Defence and Gardai who ensured the safety of all and to the team of marshals and officials around the course.

The race was won by Ray Haynes, Donore AC in 15.34 with Paul Mitchell, Tullamore Harriers AC 2nd in 15.42 and Mick Fogarty, Ferbane AC in 16.01.

Emily Grennan, Tullamore Harriers AC was first lady home in 17.55, Denise Egan, Ferbane AC 2nd in 18.03, and 3rd lady was Portlaoise AC's Grace Reilly in 18.24.

1st Junior : Poppy Hackett, St Michael's AC and Conor Sherwin, Mullingar Harriers AC.

1st O40: Evelyn Herlihy and Jonathan Dunne, both Tullamore Harriers AC.

1st O45: Sarah Flanagan, Tullamore Harriers AC and John Lee, Trim

1st O50: Rita Daly, Tullamore Harriers AC and Brendan Donagher, Naomh Mhuire AC.

1st O60: Brigid McCabe, Mullingar Harriers AC and Tim Camon, Ferbane AC.

1st O70: Eileen Kenny, Athlone AC and Ger Woods, Banagher AC..

Well done again to all who supported Round 3 of the Buildmore Offaly 5k Series. Round 4, is the Ferbane AC hosted 5k on the 7th of May.
