Birr trees cut down for Health & Safety reasons

FOUR trees located beside Marian Hall Car Park in Birr were recently cut down due to Health and Safety reasons.
The Midland Tribune was contacted by a concerned local citizen who said he was upset to see the trees had been cut down. He claimed that the "beautiful" trees were "in their prime" and it was "very sad in this day and age" to see their destruction.
Another local person told The Midland Tribune that one of the four deciduous trees was in fact "badly rotten." He said people were worried about the danger of falling branches from the four trees. "During the stormy weather," he remarked, "one of the large branches fell between two of the cars parked in the car park, narrowly missing them. Another branch also fell down, into the Marian Hall area.
"There was a genuine concern about people's safety. The lower sections of the trees have been left in situ and it's planned to turn them into sculptures. Chippings from the trees are being used by Birr Tidy Towns in their flower beds."
