Car and motorcycle in collision at busy Offaly bridge

A MOTORCYCLIST was injured in a collision at Kilbeggan Bridge in Tullamore on Sunday afternoon.

Witnesses said a motorcycle struck a car on the bridge over the Grand Canal and the motorcycle rider, a woman, was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The car was being driven in the Kilbeggan direction from the town centre and it is believed the motorcycle came from the other side of the bridge.

There was damage to the front driver's side of the car.

Emergency services and gardai were on the scene and the bridge was closed to traffic for a period before being reopened shortly before 6pm.
