A DEFENDANT in Tullamore Court pleaded guilty last week to being in possession of three different types of illegal drugs.

Rian Coyne, Whitewell, Gaybrook, Mullingar was stopped by the Guards on Main Street, Tyrellspass, on July 30 last.

Sergeant James O'Sullivan told the court that the defendant had €350 of cocaine, €50 of cannabis and €30 of ketamine on his person at the time.

Judge Andrew Cody commented that it's "unusual for a defendant to have a cocktail of drugs like this on his person, to have three different types of drugs."

The defending solicitor Donal Farrelly said his client is 24 years of age and is in good employment.

"He doesn't take drugs anymore," Mr Farrelly remarked. "He has left that behind him and is determined not to return to it. He is taking this case very seriously and is very concerned about it. He has €400 in court for the Court Poor Box, if that would be acceptable."

Judge Cody adjourned the case to March 15 next and asked for a probation report on that date.

"I want him to interact with the Probation Service in a meaningful, proactive way," he said.
