Roseanne Devlin of 17 Meadowlands, Kilcormac was charged with stealing three cans of Red Bull with a total value of €5.55 from Lidl, Church Road, Tullamore on December 30, 2023.
“She put the cans into her shopping bag and left the store,” said Sergeant Brendan Kearns. “No attempt was made to pay for the items.” The Sergeant said Ms Devlin had 48 previous convictions including convictions for no insurance, theft, and Section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.
“The person she was with,” explained defending solicitor Patrick Martin, “opened a can in the shop and they were asked to leave. Just before the person opened the can, the three cans had been placed in the shopping bag and they forgot to empty it when they were asked to leave. It was a mistake made in the pressure of the moment.”
Judge Andrew Cody convicted and fined €250, with three months to pay.
