Expect major traffic delays at peak times this week in Tullamore due to major event

Motorists should expect major traffic delays at peak times this week in Tullamore due to traffic heading to the National Ploughing Championships.

The National Ploughing Championships take place in Ratheniska in Laois on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Temporary signs have already been installed on roundabouts on the bypass around Tullamore warning motorists of possible delays.

Last year there were huge tailbacks on the bypass around Tullamore each morning with traffic backed up each day from the N80 roundabout to Portlaoise out the Kilbeggan Road. There were also traffic delays in the evening as those attending the event made their way home.

The traffic jams on the bypass had knock on effects around the town on the approaches to the bypass.

In previous years gardai have been on the roundabouts at peak times to direct traffic.
