The man, who was jumped by the juveniles, was walking home after getting a pizza

Longford gardaí are investigating the 'targeted' assault of a young man, in his early 20s, by a gang of youths last weekend.

The young man, who was walking alone and described as being vulnerable, was badly beaten in the early hours of Saturday morning.

One possible motive being explored is that the victim was attacked because he has a developmental condition and has been diagnosed with autism.

It is understood the man, who was jumped by the juveniles, was walking home after getting a pizza from a restaurant on the Main Street in Longford town.

He is said to have sustained cuts and bruises after 'three to four juveniles targeted him' after 1am on Saturday morning.

It is understood it was an unprovoked attack and the victim had been minding his own business.

The young man was injured after the incident, however, he did not need to be hospitalised and he is recovering following the incident.
