THERE was great local community spirit evident in Ballycumber on Friday last as a crowd gathered to support the parents and grandparents of baby Callum Corcoran who lost his 11 month old battle with a rare cancer earlier this year.

As his journey touched the hearts of many, the local Mella's Ladies Club, in collaboration with the Corcoran family, organised this event with all proceeds going to the LauraLynn Children’s Hospice and Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice.

The Mella's Ladies Club fundraiser intends to help both Hospices which supply comfort, care and solace to families facing the challenges of serious illness and end of life care. They also encourage people to Carry a Teddy for Callum.

All those who turned out were invited to walk a 30 minute slot around the lovely walking track at Ballycumber GAA pitch and this collectively spanning a continuous 24 hour period commencing at 2pm on Friday and it finished at 2pm the following day Saturday.

Baby Callum’s dad Kieran is a native of Leamonaghan and is well known in the local community, but he now resides in London. However, he and Callum’s mum Ingrid were joined by grandparents, relatives and many neighbours and friends for this fundraiser.

If you would like to donate to this very worthy cause, you can do so by online donation through the dedicated fundraising page: https://www.idonate.ie/crowdfunder/MellasClub. Members of the club also have sponsorship cards if you wish to go that way and you can also follow progress on “Mellas Ladies Club” facebook page.
