Judge tells man he is a danger to the people of Tullamore

A man who drove at speed while over the alcohol limit had 16 previous convictions, three for noinsurance, when he came before Judge Andrew Cody at last week's district court.
On July 30, 2021, Garda Andrew Barron observed a vehicle speeding on the N52 at Durrow, Tullamore. Garda Barron deployed the blue lights and stopped Mindaugas Milasius (47) of Carraig Cluain, Tullamore. Mr Milasisu gave Garda Barron a false name. He was driving over the legal alcohol limit. Garda Barron made a lawful demand for Mr Milasius driving licence and insurance but he failed to produce them.
Mr Milasius had previously been disqualified for no insurance and had received a six month suspended sentence. He had also been fined €3,000 previously for driving under the influence.
Solicitor Donal Farrelly said Mr Milasius had a bad record. He said since the date of the offences in July he had put his life in order. He works in a meat factory and is supporting his family. He is the main breadwinner for the family. He doesn't drive or drink alcohol which was the root of all his problems. He asked Judge Cody not to jail the defendant.
Judge Cody said Mr Milasius was a danger to the people of Tullamore. He had driven with excess alcohol and he fined him €500 and imposed six months in prison which he suspended for 4 years. He disqualified him from driving for 10 years.
For driving with no insurance he fined the defendant €300 and imposed a six month suspended sentence. In addition he disqualified him from driving for 10 years.
For the charge of dangerous driving he fined the defendant €300 with six months suspended for four years on his own bond of €100. He took into consideration his failure to produce insurance and driving without a licence
