Fifty-eight-year-old with 'loan on car' accused of dangerous driving in Tullamore housing estate told to produce bank statements

JUDGE Andrew Cody queried an application for legal aid from a woman who is accused of dangerous driving in a 2026 Offaly-registered car.

Teresa McInerney (58), Chancery Close, Tullamore, appeared before Tullamore District Court having been summonsed for dangerous driving at Moylena in Tullamore on March 26 last.

Ms McInerney's solicitor, Patrick Martin, applied for an adjournment and requested disclosure of the evidence against the woman.

Asked about the nature of the driving by Judge Cody, Sergeant Richard Thornton, court presenter, said it would be alleged there was excessive speed in a housing estate.

The judge ordered that disclosure be made to Mr Martin within three weeks and adjourned the prosecution to November 11.

On that date either a plea of guilty or not guilty is to be entered and if it is the latter, a hearing will take place on December 21, the judge ordered.

When Mr Martin made an application for legal aid on behalf of Ms McInerney, Judge Cody asked: “Who owned the 261 car?”

The judge said the car was not included in a statement of means which had been submitted to the court for the legal aid application.

Mr Martin said there was a loan on the car.

Judge Cody reserved the issue of granting legal aid pending receipt by the court of bank statements for two months.
