Man and woman were arraigned at Tullamore Circuit Court

A DEFENDANT from Edenderry pleaded guilty to deliberately damaging three tractors and a JCB on a Rhode farm during the May 15 sitting of Tullamore District Court.

Eoin Coyne,  Rooske, Edenderry, was charged with committing the offences on April 2, 2024 at Clonmore Rhode. All the vehicles belonged to the one farmer. On that day he damaged the windows of a yellow JCB digger, a Massey Ferguson 135 tractor, the doors and windows of a Massey Ferguson tractor, and all the windows of a Landini tractor.

He was also charged with, on the same date, committing trespass on “the curtilage of a building”, belonging to a woman, “in such a manner as caused or was likely to cause fear in another person.”

Sergeant Richard Thornton told the court that Mr Coyne “had no permission to be on either property” and that he had two previous convictions, for drink driving. He added that Mr Coyne hasn't paid compensation yet to the injured party, which came to €3,000.

The defending solicitor Aisling Maloney told the court that her client was inebriated on the night in question and has “only a limited memory of what happened.” She assured the court that there was no “nefarious intent towards the woman whose property he trespassed upon.”

Judge Andrew Cody adjourned the case and asked that the defendant pay the injured party for the damage caused.
