Man was verbally abusive to Gardai in supermarket in Offaly
A BIRR resident was verbally abusive towards the Gardaí in a supermarket, a recent sitting of Tullamore Court was told.
Matynas Jurkaitis 13 Sandymount Court, Birr was charged with committing the offence on April 17 at 6.40pm.
“On the evening in question,” said Sgt James O’Sullivan, “he was acting in an intoxicated fashion in SuperValu Birr. The Gardaí were called and when they arrived he told them to f*** off.”
Mr Jurkaitis was also charged with public order offences on June 25 last at 18 Cemetery Road, Birr, where he was intoxicated in public and failed to comply with a Garda’s direction.
"When he was asked to leave the premises he wouldn’t leave,” said the Sergeant. He was verbally abusive to the Gardaí and wouldn’t allow the Garda put handcuffs on him. He was shouting abuse. Eventually they had to use pepperspray.
“He has 57 previous convictions including seven convictions for public order.”
The defending solicitor Donal Farrelly said his client is Lithuanian and is 27 years of age.
“He is a very good mechanic. He gets work on and off. His troubles begin when he is off work and he starts drinking. He is a very well mannered man when he is not drinking. Work is what he likes and work is what he will need. He is currently serving a prison sentence and says prison has been pretty horrible.”
Judge Cody commented that prison is “not meant to be nice.”
The Judge adjourned the case, remanding on continuing bail
