Man who boxed woman from behind receives suspended sentence at Tullamore District Court

A MAN who had to attend a dental appointment on his previous court date because he was in 'great pain' appeared at last week's Tullamore District Court.
Patrick Gleeson, (59) of 3, Ballyfin House, Main Street, Borrisokane was charged with assaulting a woman causing her harm on December 12, 2021.
Sergeant James O'Sullivan said the case had gone ahead in the absence of Mr Gleeson.
Solicitor Donal Farrelly told Judge Andrew Cody that he had heard all the evidence on the last date and had indicated a suspended sentence. Mr Farrelly said the case had been put back to last Wednesday's date for finalisation.
Judge Andrew Cody noted that the lady had received a box in the head from Mr Gleeson.
Mr Farrelly said it had been 'quite a convoluted case'. He said the lady and the people with her had quite a lot to drink. Judge Cody said that nevertheless he had boxed her from behind.
Mr Farrelly said Mr Gleeson was 59 and on disability benefit.
Judge Cody imposed a three month sentence which he suspended for two years on Mr Gleeson's own bond of €100. He also fined the defendant €300 and gave him six months to pay.
Mr Gleeson later came back to the courtroom saying he wanted to appeal the sentence.
Judge Cody gave Mr Gleeson leave to appeal on his own bond of €500 cash lodgement.
