A MAN who stole a CD from Tesco in Tullamore had brought €15 with him to court to cover the cost.

The man had taken the CD worth €15 and exited the store on October, 19, 2022. He was later identified.

Francis Kerrigan (23) of 8, Kilcruttin, Tullamore, had a number of previous convictions from Mallow and Cork district courts, including driving with no L Plates, driving while unaccompanied, speeding, entering a building with the intention of committing theft, and damaging property for which he received a suspended sentence.

Solicitor Donal Farrelly said Mr Kerrigan was a 23 year old man with two children, aged 4 and 2. On the day of the offence he had paid for other items but the CD had slipped through, said Mr Farrelly. He is struggling with a young family.

Judge Andrew Cody, at last week's sitting of Tullamore District Court, noted that Mr Kerrigan had 17 previous convictions, all in the last few days.

Donal Farrelly said Mr Kerrigan had not been in trouble since October 2022.

Judge Andrew Cody said he would give him an opportunity subject to him making a donation of €500 to the Tullamore branch of Saint Vincent de Paul in the next week.
