A defendant from Rhode was convicted for drink driving during last week's sitting of Tullamore District Court.

Sarunas Bureika, 22 Priory Lawns, was charged with drink driving at Father Kearns Street, Edenderry on February 26 last. He had 130 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The limit is 22 microgrammes of alcohol.

Judge Andrew Cody commented that 130mgs is “a huge reading. You were well over the limit.”

Mr Bureika pleaded guilty. He said he didn't have a solicitor and he was going to represent himself. He said he deeply regretted the incident and was very sorry that it happened.

“It never happened before and it will never happen again,” he promised.

The Judge convicted the defendant and fined €100 and disqualified from driving for three years.
