Offaly Search & Recovery rescues sinking boat with family of 5 on board
The Offaly Search & Recovery team were quickly able to help a sinking boat, thanks to divers being on a training exercise nearby.
Offaly Search & Recovery confirmed on social media that its members were called out by An Garda Siochána and the Coast Guard on Wednesday evening to assist in the rescue of a sinking boat with family of 5 on board a private cruiser.
“Thankfully our divers were on the water on a training exercise and as a result were able to attend promptly,” they confirmed in a social media post.
Due to the boat in question being a size 50 foot, a second boat from Offaly Search & Rescue was also required and assisted in towing to the Moring at Clonmacnoise where all the family and Sally their dog are now safe.
The prompt actions of the service prompted many messages of support. “Well done lads, still top of your game. Dependable as always,” one message read.
Another noted how lucky people in Offaly are to have the service.
