Sixteen-year-old Éire Grapple athlete Kathy Foy has made her hometown of Tullamore proud by claiming gold in her division at the prestigious ADCC Amateur World Championship, held in Poland this weekend gone.

Competing as a blue belt, Kathy dominated her category with composure and technical excellence, cementing her place as one of the most promising young athletes on the international Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu scene.

A student at Killina Presentation Secondary School, Kathy has been training in BJJ since the age of six through Éire Grapple’s “Growing Gorillas” programme. Over the past decade, she has demonstrated unwavering dedication to the sport, training daily and steadily progressing through the ranks with determination and discipline that set her apart.

Kathy’s commitment extends beyond her own training. She is a regular presence in the gym, where she volunteers her time assisting with classes and supporting club events and competitions. Her coaches describe her as one of the most hard working and selfless members of the team, always ready to lend a hand and lead by example.

“Kathy is an inspiration to everyone at the club,” said her coach. “What she’s achieved is no accident – it’s the result of years of effort, resilience, and passion for the sport.”

As she returns home from Poland with a world championship title under her belt, Kathy isn’t resting on her laurels. She continues to train with the same hunger and focus, setting her sights on even greater challenges ahead.

The future is bright for this young athlete, and her journey is only just beginning.
