Old buildings in Tullamore vanish as development of prime site continues

The demolition of old buildings on the former Texas site in Tullamore is well underway.

Supermarket giant Aldi is to open a second store on the site in 2024.

A spokesperson said ''The new store will see the creation of 30 new permanent jobs in the town, while up to 50 jobs will be supported during the construction period.

''The plans include a 1,644 square metre retail store (to include off license use).''

The spokesperson said it will bring greater choice and value to shoppers while creating ''important well-paid jobs in the community. We look forward to developing and opening the store, and bringing unbeatable Aldi value to even more people in Tullamore.''

Work began on the Texas site last May. Aldi's first store in Tullamore is located in River View Park, outside the town.
