A PERMANENT spot has been found for new bottle and clothing banks in Kilcormac, a local councillor said during a recent meeting.

Cllr John Leahy told the November monthly meeting of Birr Municipal District that he could not divulge the proposed location for the banks, for one reason or another, but he was strongly confident they would be in situ and up and running once again for the town within a couple of months.

Kilcormac has been without a bottle and clothing bank service for several months and locals are badly missing it.

The previous service was located opposite the Catholic Church but was discontinued when the contractor collecting the waste bought a new, bigger truck and could no longer navigate the narrow roadway.

The banks were therefore removed by the Council, which is currently looking for a new location.

The November meeting was told that a temporary location has been found.

Cllr Leahy said a number of locations had been investigated, “but the people living in those areas didn't want the banks beside them. Thankfully, we've found a permanent location, but I can't divulge it yet.”

Mary Hussey, Senior Engineer, said bottle and clothing banks may be placed, on a temporary basis, at Fiesta Hall.
