Plans for major housing development in Tullamore on hold as appeal lodged

Offaly County Council recently granted permission for the development

Plans for a major housing development in Tullamore have been put on hold as an appeal against the decision to grant permission has been lodged with An Bor Pleanala.

Offaly County Council granted permission to Capital Homes for a project which will expand the Redwood development off the Clara Road in Tullamore. Capital Homes, a company headed up by local businessman and developer Seamus Sheerin, sought consent for 90 houses and eight apartments.

There are already about 100 houses occupied, built or under construction in the overall development.

The project incorporates what the developer says will be a 'landmark' three-storey building with apartments on the top two floors and a gym, remote working hub and creche on the ground floor.

The consent from Offaly County Council is subject to 26 conditions.

A number of nearby residents had raised concerns about the impact the new housing would have and other issues were raised around access for traffic.

An appeal has now been lodged with An Bord Plenala with a decision due in July.
