Record heat? Weather experts forecast scorching temperatures as Ireland to get heat blast

A leading weather expert has raised the prospect of a new high temperature record being set for Ireland this week as the country is to get a blast of heat.

In a post this morning, Cathal Nolan of Ireland's Weather Channel said that the weather on Wednesday could be hot enough to see the old record challenged.

He said that the average April temperature for most of Ireland typically sits somewhere about 13/14 degrees celsius, which is one of the reasons why this weeks forecasted warm temperatures are rather exceptional for this time of the year.

He added, "in meteorological history the warmest temperature ever recorded in Ireland was 25.6 degrees Celsius on April 26, 1984. However, on Wednesday, we have a chance of breaking that temperature somewhere across the country."

He also pinpointed where he felt the temperature record could be broken.

"At the moment as winds fall light on Wednesday there’s a number of places I believe we may see this temperature record being challenged," he posted. "But those areas require local factors like altitude, proximity to water, wind direction and speed, and the antecedent temperatures. Areas that will likely strike the balance will be parts of the Shannon Estuary basin around Limerick/Shannon, areas in Kerry between Killarney and Killorglin, Carlow Town or Kilkenny, and finally, as shown in the map above, parts of Dublin away from coastal fringes."
