Reunion planned by past pupils of famous Midlands school

A CALL has gone out to past pupils of the Carmelite College in Moate from the 1960s and 1970s from two men who are planning a school reunion.

Liam Fleury, who attended the Moate boarding school in the 1960s, and Paddy Hopkins hope to host the reunion in Moate towards the end of October.

The Carmelite College was opened in 1949, attracting students from all over the country, but especially the Midlands counties.

In the 1970s and 1980s it became well known throughout the country as a Gaelic football stronghold.

It amalgamated with the Convent of Mercy Secondary School and Moate Vocational School in 1996 when Moate Community School was established.

Anyone interested in attending the reunion is asked to email either Liam Fleury at [email protected] or Paddy Hopkins at [email protected] before September 30 next.
