Road leading to Kilbeggan bridge in Tullamore is deteriorating

The condition of the road leading to the Kilbeggan bridge from the town in Tullamore is deteriorating rapidly. Potholes are appearing and the recent rain is exacerbating the problem.
According to Councillor Declan Harvey that part of the road was not included in the town enhancement project. He says there are plans for it to be incorporated into the Urban Greenaway Cycle Network.
''I am asking the council to do a good temporary job until the greenway project gets underway. There are also a number of potholes around the town that need fixing'', he said.
The appointment of Aecom as designer and project supervisor to oversee the design process for the Tullamore Cycle Network-survey stage was mentioned at the November meeting of Tullamore Municipal District.
In January 2022, the Tullamore Urban Greenway Project received €371,000 in funding under Active Travel. In addition €116,000 was allocated for Phase 1 of the town's Cycle Network.
Offaly County Council propose to construct a shared walking and cycling greenway route (2.5 to 3m in width) along the towpath of the Grand Canal for a distance of 2.8km.
The route of the shared facility is from the eastern end of Convent View, Tullamore to Srah Bridge, Ballydrohid, Tullamore.
The route tracks the northern towpath from Convent View, to Kilbeggan Bridge, (R421), where it crosses to the southern towpath, from Bury Quay to Srah Bridge.
The proposal will connect with the Grand Canal Greenway at Convent View on the east and Srah Road and Srah Bridge, on the west of Tullamore.
Works will include the Kilbeggan bridge area.
