Man and woman were arraigned at Tullamore Circuit Court

TWO gardai were assaulted by a 17-year-old at the courthouse in Tullamore, the local District Court heard.

The teenage male also made a threat to kill or cause serious harm to a garda and a garda sergeant and damaged a Covid warning sign in the courthouse.

The offences were committed on October 6, 2021, Judge Andrew Cody was told, and following a previous court appearance a probation report on the youth was prepared.

Suzanne Dooner, BL, for the accused, said the report was very good and it recommended a probation order subject to conditions.

The defendant was 17-and-a-half years old at the time  and was in serious difficulty but was now on the road to recovery and had a bright future. There were medical and family issues but the accused now hoped to begin an apprenticeship.

Judge Cody adjourned sentence to December 20 for another report and evidence of the youth seeking work.
