'Sick minded individuals' set fire to furniture in Offaly graveyard
Fire services have called to a cemetery on three occasions within a week, prompting strong criticism from a local councillor
“This is a new low by a small group of sick minded individuals - to interfere in family graveside furniture is deplorable,” Cllr Fergus McDonnell said.
“Edenderry Fire Service were on site three times this week in Edenderry Cemetery,” he said.
He asked what type people carry out “wanton vandalism” at a cemetery?
“Gardai have an increased presence in the area so anyone with any information please pass it on. This cannot be allowed to happen again,” Cllr McDonnell said.
The latest incidents come within weeks of it emerging that flowers and graveside ornaments are being stolen from Clonminch Cemetery in Tullamore.
Flowers were stolen from several graves prior to Cemetery Sunday in the town and graveside lanterns and ornaments have been stolen in the past, it emerged.
