The Banagher & District Darts League first started in 1988 and has been competed for every year since its inception, making it one of the longest running leagues in the country.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions, they had a three year hiatus, but the league re-commenced in November 2022 to great delight to all their players and publicans.

They had 10 teams take part from Banagher, Clara, Borrisokane, Rathcabbin and Pullough.

A hard-fought league format of two groups was played over three months resulting in teams split into three different sections for the play-offs, which took place in March.

The C was the first of the sections played off with the final between Simon's B, Banagher and The Trap Bar B, Clara held in the Pull Inn, Pullough. Simon's B showed their experience to win 8-3. This was Simon's B 2nd C league title.

The next section to be completed was the B, where they had four teams qualify for semi-finals. In the first semi-final, The Mill Bar, Clara defeated The Last Chance. The 2nd semi-final was a tight affair with the Green Bar, Borrisokane just edging Nigel’s Place, Clara after a sudden death play-off 17-16. This set up a final between The Mill Bar and The Green Bar, which was held in the Trap, Clara and won by The Green Bar 8-2. It was The Green Bar’s first time to play in the League and they come away with a League win.

The League was concluded with the A section, where the semi-final draw was The Pull Inn against Simon's A, Banagher and Corrigan’s Corner House, Banagher against Trap Bar A, Clara. Both semi-finals were tight games where the Pull Inn and The Trap came out on top to set up the final in Corrigan’s, Banagher.

Final night drew a great crowd to Banagher to see the league’s top two teams do battle. With both teams having players who have represented Offaly County team, a great game was expected and the supporters on the night were not disappointed. Both teams played great darts with the Trap Bar A coming out on top by a scoreline of 8-5 to win their first league title and allowing them to pay an emotional tribute to one of their team members, Eddie Mitchell, who sadly passed away earlier in the season. Well done to the Trap who join the long list of Banagher & District Darts League winning teams.

With the league successfully wrapped up, the committee are already planning for next season, and they look forward to welcoming all their teams and players back for another year of darts. Roll on 2023/2024.
