A man was convicted of stealing two fridges and two washing machines from DID Electrical in Tullamore Retail Park

A man was convicted of stealing two fridges and two washing machines from DID Electrical in Tullamore Retail Park during last week's Tullamore District Court sitting.

Edward Corcoran, 14 Kishogue Park Lucan, Dublin committed the offence on May 2, 2022.

“On Monday, May 2, at 1.30pm,” said Sgt Brendan Kearns, “the Gardaí responded to a report of a theft from DID. Two males, including the defendant had removed the four items, which were recycled items with an estimated value of €400.”

The defending solicitor Brian Duffy said the theft happened in a recycling area where people dispose of large electrical items such as fridges.

“My client has a large family of 10 children and he was going to repair these four items for members of his family,” remarked Mr Duffy. “He didn't realise that he couldn't take these items as he didn't think anyone had any use for them. He has compensation money in court today.”

“I honestly didn't know I was doing wrong,” the defendant told Judge Andrew Cody.

“I don't believe that you were behaving like a good Samaritan on this particular day,” said the Judge, who convicted and sentenced to two months imprisonment, suspending for two years.
