Tributes paid after passing of former curate in parish in Offaly

Tributes have been paid following the passing of a former curate in a parish in Offaly.

The Very Reverend Michael Campbell, PP of Abbeylara, Co. Longford formerly a curate in Ferbane parish in Offaly passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, August 30.

He was formerly a curate in Ferbane parish in Offaly where he is fondly remembered by his former parishoners with one describing him as a 'rare diamond'.

His funeral Mass took place at St Bernards Church, Abbeylara on Wednesday.

Some of the tributes paid to Fr Michael on rip.ie include:

"Deepest sympathy to Fr Michael’s family, relatives and friends and with the parishioners he served so well. I know that he is fondly remembered by many he ministered to in Ferbane and Belmont and I encountered him on many occasions and was acquainted with his community work there as an engaged curate always. May he enjoy the fruits of his labours in communion with his Lord and Master. Go ndeana Dia trocaire ar a anam uasal."

"Sincere sympathy to the Campbell family on the death of Fr. Michael. One of life's gentlemen who excelled in all the communities he ministered in. May his gentle soul rest in peace."

"Deepest sympathy to the Campbell family on the sad passing of Fr. Michael. He was a very welcome guest at many family gatherings. He did so much for the community when he was Curate here (in Ferbane). He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. May his gentle soul rest in peace."

"I wish to extend my deepest condolences to Fr. Michael' family on their devastating loss. Sympathy also to his fellow religious, relations, parishioners, close friends and all others everywhere who will lament his passing. During his fifteen year stay in our parish (Ferbane), l got to know him very well through our involvement in a number of organisations. He was a concelebrating priest (unexpectedly!)at our late uncle's funeral mass in Newport, Co. Tipperary back in 1996. I don't think that I can add much more to all that has already been said and written about him in the last few days except to say that he was a truly remarkable human being and priest. A very "rare diamond" as they say. Please God,he will have even greater intercessionary powers with the Almighty now in Heaven.
