FINES totalling €1,000 were imposed on a man who drove without insurance, tax and an NCT certificate.

Tullamore District Court was told that Artjoms Popkovs (38), Eiscir End Road, Eiscir Meadows, Tullamore was stopped at 5pm at Cloncollig on August 23 last year and his car was seized.

Garda Kieran Fitzpatrick said the tax had expired on the Cavan registered 2007 vehicle in January, 2023 and the annual rate of tax payable for it would be €673.

Mr Popkovs told Judge Andrew Cody that he got the car insured a week later and also taxed it and got an NCT certificate.

Garda Fitzpatrick said it had been taxed for three months on September 13 but had not been back taxed.

Mr Popkovs said he needed to drive at the time because he had started a new job but had not been able to work for the last six weeks because of a broken leg.

Judge Cody imposed a €500 fine for the tax offence and fines of €250 each for having no NCT and insurance.
