There was a super achievement by the Tullamore Harriers' Girls U18 Relay Team who were victorious at the National Indoor Championships in Athlone, March 23rd.

In 2023 the ladies - Alisha Maher, Katie Deverell, Teagan Delaney, Eimear Cotter and Lucy Champ took the Leinster title, Leinster CBP and the club record in the 4x100m relay.

The girls were very unfortunate when they reached the All Ireland final, to narrowly miss out on medals due to a small technicality. Despite this, the girls resilience shone through and they reaped the rewards of their dedication in training, to be crowned All Ireland indoor 4x200 champions at the 123.ie National championships today.

In their heat, Lucy, Alisha, Katie and Eimear all raced a conservative race of 1.47 seconds to place second to ensure a good lane for the final. In the final, Teagan stepped in for Eimear. Positioned in lane five there was no doubt about the team’s intentions from the start. Lucy ran a blistering first leg to gain a 5 meter lead and from there, the lead gradually increased with Alisha to Katie to Teagan, all ensuring flawless exchanges to win by approx 20 metres with a time of 1.44:59. This time breaks the club record set just two weeks ago at the Leinster championships.

Congratulations girls and coaches on a fabulous achievement and now all five will focus on their individual events at the national indoor championships in two weeks time.

National 10K Championship success for Tullamore ladies

Just over 1200 finishers made for a great running of the annual Dunboyne 10K on March 24th, which this year hosted the Athletics Ireland National 10K championships. While it was an open race it was very promising to see that over 900 of the participants were competing for national titles and medals. The renowned fast course started in Dunboyne Village and finished with a lap of Dunboyne AC 400m tartan track. The race was won by Sean Tobin Clonmel AC (29.11) Shona Heaslip An Riocht AC (32.48).

Congratulations to the trio of Danielle Donegan, Niamh O'Connor and Sarah Flanagan who earned gold team medals in the senior team category. Skerries 10K

To round off a busy weekend on the roads, it was in the coastal village of Skerries that the blue and white of Tullamore Harriers was spotted on Bank Holiday Monday 18th March. Skerries AC marked it's 50th anniversary with the Skerries 10K road race and while it was a bright and breezy day, there were ample sneaky drags to test the 356 participants. Shane McGuinness had a super run in a time of 41.04, and the Galvin ladies - Ruth, Mary and Naomi clocked 50.04, 50.24 and 52.11 respectively. Well done to you all.
