CCTV identified a woman stealing a jacket and other items worth a total of €41 from the Lidl store at Main Street in Tullamore, the local District Court heard.

Judge Andrew Cody was told that Jenny Coonan (31), Sophia Housing, High Street, Tullamore, had brought €40 to court.

Ms Coonan, who pleaded guilty to the offence, had a total of 47 previous convictions, including 15 for theft and her solicitor Patrick Martin said she had “quite a chequered history” but had recovered from addiction and done a course in hairdressing.

Mr Martin pointed out that the theft offence had been committed close to Christmas on December 12, 2023.

He sought an adjournment to February next year when another matter is to come before the court.

Judge Cody noted that the theft at Lidl had been committed some 15 months after a suspended sentence had been imposed and adjourned the matter to February next for a probation report.
