Two replacement councillors must be found on Offaly County Council for newly elected TDs
Two replacement councillors must now be found for Offaly County Council after two of its members have now been elected as TDs.
Councillors Tony McCormack (Fianna Fail) and John Clendennen (Fine Gael) were elected to Offaly County Council in June but will now vacate those seats after being elected to the Dail.
In each case the departing councillors parties will be able to co-opt someone in to take the seats.
Co-opting of seats happened twice on the council in recent years with Mark Hackett taking the Green Party seat from his wife Pippa and Sandy Smollen Feehan taking the seat from her husband Ken.
Tony McCormack was elected in the Tullamore Electoral area to Offaly County Council and his three running mates were also elected so Fianna Fail will have to recruit a new face to fill its ranks.
It is a similar story in the Birr Electoral Area where John Clendennen was elected in June. His one running mate in the area, Hugh Egan, was also elected so Fine Gael will also be looking out for a new face to fill its ranks.
Tony McCormack was also the Cathaoirleach of Offaly County Council with that position likely to be taken up by the current Leas-Chathaoirleach, Cllr Audrey Hennessey Kennedy
