A MOTORIST clocked for speeding in Moneygall was convicted and fined €1,000 during last week's sitting of Tullamore District.

He was also disqualified from driving for a period of two years.

Samuel Monroy Garcia, Tiermoyle, Latteragh, Nenagh committed the offence on September 23 last in Clynoe, Moneygall.

Sergeant Richard Thornton told the court that Mr Garcia had been going at 175 kilometres per hour in a 100 kph zone.

The defendant pleaded guilty. He had no previous convictions.

The defending solicitor Patrick Martin said his client is a 24 year old single man. “He apologises for speeding.”

Mr Martin remarked. “He has no excuses for committing the offence. This offence was totally out of character for him. He tells me that it won't happen again.” He added that Mr Garcia works in a fastfood restaurant.

Judge Andrew Cody convicted and sentenced as stated.
