Man and woman were arraigned at Tullamore Circuit Court

AT a previous sitting of Tullamore District Court the presiding Judge said that a man who is currently in custody in Cloverhill Prison could be released to live with his mother on the proviso that his partner was satisfied with that arrangement.

The 37 year old man was charged with being intoxicated at Tullamore hospital and with assaulting a woman causing her harm.

At last Wednesday's sitting, the man's partner described the defendant as a dangerous man who was aggressive towards her. She claimed he had exerted coercive control over her for eight years. She said he wasn't just a threat to her and their two sons but to members of the public.

Solicitor Donal Farrelly said his client would live a ''good bit away'' from the defendant if released. from prison. However, his partner said she would still bump into him when she went shopping. She said drink was not his issue.

Judge Andrew Cody said he had heard nothing that would change his mind about releasing the defendant from prison. He remanded him in continuing custody until July 5, 2023.

Sgt James O'Sullivan said he didn't have any directions from the DPP yet regarding his case.

Judge Cody said he would be anxious to have directions within two weeks of last week's court.
