New research shows that consideration of Chinese brands has risen to 49 per cent.

The number of drivers who would now consider a Chinese car has risen to an all-time high, a new survey has found.

Research by online car retailer Carwow has found that 49 per cent of UK drivers would now ‘be open’ to considering a Chinese car for their next vehicle. It represents a 40 per cent increase since January, and a large rise on the 29 per cent who said the same in summer 2022.

Some 42 per cent of the 1,270 people questioned cited cost as the main reason behind choosing a Chinese brand, while 24 per cent highlighted ‘competitive discounts’ as a key driver behind the move.

Chinese brands have risen in popularity over recent years, with the number of Chinese-brand models available via Carwow now standing at over 50, up from 30 in August last year.

Ben Carter, chief customer, marketing & media officer at Carwow, said: “The dramatic increase in UK drivers considering Chinese brands on our platform isn’t just about a response to cost-of-living pressures or lower price tags, it’s a shift in how people think about their cars. Buyers are leaving badge loyalty behind and looking for impressive tech and great value.”

Carwow also states that enquiries for Chinese cars through its platform have risen by 119 per cent in the first seven months of the year compared with the same period in 2025.
