BYD has announced that its flagship Ti7 seven-seat SUV is coming to the UK later this year.

BYD is one of China’s largest vehicle manufacturers and the Ti7 will sit at the top of the company’s model line-up, rivalling cars such as the Land Rover Defender and Toyota Land Cruiser.

Under the bonnet, the Ti7 will use BYD’s plug-in hybrid powertrain, which consists of a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to two electric motors that send power to all four wheels. The firm has not revealed the size of the car’s battery pack, though it has said that the car will be able to travel up to a claimed 79 miles on electric power.placeholder image

In terms of performance, BYD has not announced figures at this stage, though the car can reach 60mph in just 4.6 seconds.

The exterior boasts a prominent front bumper with a titanium-effect finish, while the dual-layer LED lighting signature gives it a premium look. Its boxy silhouette is accompanied by chunky wheel arch extensions with a slab-sided side profile and a flat tailgate.

Inside, there are seven seats with a minimalist dashboard layout that includes a 15.6-inch infotainment screen.

The Ti7 will also come with a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, which enables electrical appliances such as coffee machines or toasters to be plugged in using the car’s on-board battery pack.

Further details on prices, specifications and UK availability will be revealed in the coming weeks.
