The Premier League season draws to a close on Sunday with plenty still to play for on the final day.

Arsenal have ended their long wait for a domestic title, but Champions League, Europa League and Conference League places have still to be resolved, while West Ham and Tottenham are fighting to avoid relegation.

Here, the Press Association looks at seven memorable moments from an enthralling 2025-26 campaign.

Gunners end 22-year wait for title

Arsenal were spared a nerve-shredding final day and celebrated their first Premier League title in 22 years on Tuesday night after Bournemouth held closest challengers Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at the Vitality Stadium.

Two dropped points for City left them four adrift of the Gunners going into Sunday’s final fixtures, leaving Arsenal fans to party as their club were confirmed English champions for the first time since 2004.

Max Dowman became the Premier League’s all-time youngest goal scorer in March when he sealed Arsenal’s 2-0 home win against Everton, aged 16 years and 73 days.

The teenage midfielder side-stepped his way clear on the halfway line and ran on to slide the ball into an empty net for the Gunners ‘ second. He was already the youngest player in Premier League history – aged 15 years and 235 days – and is now also the youngest player to win the title.

Milner sets new top-flight appearance record

At the other end of the spectrum, Brighton’s evergreen James Milner set a new Premier League appearance record in February, aged 40.

The former England midfielder started his 654th top-flight match in the Seagulls’ 2-0 win at Brentford, surpassing Gareth Barry’s previous mark, almost 24 years since his first appearance for Leeds in 2002 when he became the Premier League’s second-youngest player at the time, aged 16 years and 309 days.

Biggest VAR call in top flight yet?

Video assistant referee Darren England and match official Chris Kavanagh combined to make arguably the biggest VAR call since its inception in 2019 during Arsenal’s 1-0 win at West Ham earlier this month.

Callum Wilson thought he had scored West Ham’s stoppage-time equaliser only for Kavanagh to be sent to the monitor by VAR before ruling Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya had been fouled by Hammers substitute Pablo.

The controversial decision sent the Gunners five points clear at the top with two games to play and left West Ham needing victory on the final day and defeat for Tottenham to avoid relegation.

Carrick launches United return with statement win

Michael Carrick marked the first game of his second spell in temporary charge of Manchester United in spectacular fashion as they dealt Manchester City’s title hopes a big blow with a 2-0 win at Old Trafford.

It was a statement win for Carrick, who ripped up former boss Ruben Amorim’s blueprint to halt United’s run of one win in six league games in impressive fashion.

The manner of United’s victory lifted the gloom at Old Trafford and set the tone as a third-placed finish secured Champions League football and prompted the club to reach an agreement with Carrick to become their permanent head coach.

Salah drops his bombshellplaceholder image
Salah drops his bombshell

Mohamed Salah dropped a bombshell in December by announcing he had been “thrown under the bus” and had no relationship with Liverpool manager Arne Slot.

One of Liverpool’s all-time greats made his sensational claim in the Elland Road mixed zone after the Reds’ 3-3 draw at Leeds, having been demoted to the bench for three-successive matches.

It remains to be seen whether the Egypt star will remain at Anfield this summer and see out his contract, which expires in 2027.

Harvey Barnes fires himself into record books

Harvey Barnes created more history in January by scoring the latest winner ever recorded in a Premier League match as Newcastle snatched a thrilling 4-3 victory over Leeds at St James’ Park.

Newcastle had trailed 3-1 in stoppage-time before Bruno Guimaraes converted a penalty and Barnes sent the home fans into raptures with his winner, timed at 101 minutes and 48 seconds by the league’s official data supplier Opta.
