"Huge progress" being made in improving waste water management in Carlow
Local Fianna Fáil TD, Jennifer Murnane O'Connor, has said the latest EPA Urban Wastewater Treatment Report, published by Uisce Éireann today, shows that huge progress is being made on key water management issues across Carlow.
The report shows that investment by Uisce Éireann in Carlow has improved wastewater treatment in a number of communities including in Tullow, where the local treatment plant has undergone an upgrade helping to protect the local environment.
Additionally, works are currently underway to upgrade the wastewater treatment plant in Bagenalstown. Construction works commenced earlier this year and are expected to take two years to complete.
Upgrades are also planned for the wastewater network in Tullow and Uisce Éireann is progressing plans to upgrade and increase capacity at the Mortarstown Wastewater Treatment Plant in Carlow Town.
Finally, an upgrade is also planned for Ballinabrannagh under the Small Towns and Villages Growth Programme.
Deputy Murnane O'Connor said:
"The publication of this report shows just how investment from Uisce Éireann is improving water services all across Carlow.
"From increasing capacity at wastewater treatment plants to upgrading wastewater networks, huge progress is being made. It will now be important to ensure that work progresses on all upgrades as quickly as possible.
"Fianna Fáil in government will continue to work closely with Uisce Éireann as they deliver transformative wastewater services to enable communities like ours here in Carlow to thrive."
