Th South East Science Festival runs from Saturday 11th November until Sunday 19th November 2023.
The festival will see a wide range of free events on offer for adults, children, families and third level students in Carlow libraries, schools, community hubs and the SETU Carlow campus.
Some highlights from the festival include the following:
The festival will open with Steve Sherman’s Science Scavenger Hunt on Saturday 11th November and will take place again on Sunday 12th November.
Dorel Picovici of Carlow Beekeepers Association will discuss all things bee business in a lunchtime talk in SETU on Monday 13th November.
Carlow College will host a panel discussion called 'AI: A threat to Humankind? How the Humanities can save us from Extinction' on Tuesday 14th at 7pm.
On Thursday 16th November in St Patrick's College, Peter Reynolds of Carlow Kilkenny Ambulance Service will discuss heart health and wellbeing and attendees will hear about the work of Cardiac First Responders (CFRs).

Local events are organised by CALMAST at SETU with support from Science Foundation Ireland and industry in the region, Karolyn McDonnell, Festival Engagement Executive with CALMAST, said. “People think of Science Week and they automatically think that it’s just focused on schools and on children. South East Science Festival has something for everyone.
“The South East has become a magnet for science, technology and pharmaceutical firms. The growing sector offers great job prospects for graduates with science-related skills and a world of opportunities, rewarding salaries and a chance to travel the world. We want to showcase how exciting and wonderful science is to all age cohorts, all groups.
“The South East Science Festival has grown over the past 20 years and have evolved with the times. We are encouraging anyone with a spirit of adventure and who is curious about the world around us to have a look at the programme, book their free place now,” she said.
