An area within the grounds of University Hospital Limerick has been sealed off following the find

Gardai have launched an investigation after the body of a man was found on the grounds of University Hospital Limerick.

Officers remain at the scene of the discovery, which is located in a grassy area at the UHL campus in Dooradoyle, Limerick - close to the helipad.

The discovery was made late on Thursday night, and the area has been sealed off for a technical examination.

The body is believed to be that of a man, aged in his 40s, and the discovery, it is understood, was made by a member of staff at UHL.

A post-mortem is expected to be carried out to determine the cause of death.

The local coroner has been notified and the results of the post-mortem will determine the course of the garda investigation.
