Local author Jane Buckley
Local author Jane Buckley, within only two years, has launched the third of her four novels, 'Light', in the award-winning, highly proclaimed Derry-based fictional award-winning thriller series, 'Stones Corner'.
Since the publication of Jane's debut novel Stones Corner, Turmoil, in early 2021, she has produced books two and three Darkness and Light in just under two years!
"Each Stones Corner book is a lengthy 400 pages, longer than most fictional paperbacks with around 135,000 words.
"I love a physical book, and I find it incredible when I pick up one of my own to see how heavy, meaty and solid it is!, " Jane commented. So far, paperback sales have been fabulous, and kindle e-books on par.
Jane penned her first book, Turmoil, to attract young adults through a fictional tale that incorporates all the ingredients of a fictional but fact-based thriller based in Derry in the early years of The Troubles.
Nevertheless, the book has proved remarkably successful with middle-aged men and women who lived and experienced the conflict from an early age.
The hard-hitting series commences in late 1972 and until now, ends in book three in London in 1982.
Emotional pointers range from supportive neighbours running in and out of each other's homes borrowing sugar or money to top up the electric meter to the lives of the strong-minded women of Derry's shirt factories who linked arm in arm to work.
We see the British Army raiding homes, internment, Armagh Women’s gaol and, finally, in the core of all this chaos, a forbidden love affair.
Commenting on her work, Jane Buckley said: "My novels are a challenging read and not for the light-hearted.
“Sadly, once again, they address the social issue merry-go-round we are on because of the cost-of-living crisis and the political air in the Northern Ireland today.
“These familiar topics include poverty, unemployment, addiction, prejudice, broken communities and narcissistic opportunists."
Reviews for Jane's books have been riveting and her first novel, Turmoil, won her an award at the Indie Reader Awards, for fiction in the States. She also works closely with libraries throughout the island of Ireland and plans a book tour in the spring of 2023.
She continued: "I love getting out and about and talking to everyone and anyone about my writing journey including the highlights and lows, of which there are lots!
“Writing is tough, but marketing and promoting harder!
“I’ve just returned from launching Light in New Zealand, meeting in person and online with ‘Irish Mammies in New Zealand,’ ‘Friends of Ireland’ and the amazing ‘Irish Society’ in both Auckland and Christchurch and loved every moment of it.”
